Casualty’s Rash Masum star ‘confirms’ show’s future following BAFTA win

Casualty star Neet Mohan has opened up on the show’s future following its BAFTA victory.

The actor, who plays tormented Rash Masum in the long running BBC medical drama, was speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, two days after the glitzy awards ceremony which saw cast members take to the red carpet.

“As far as I’m aware, we’re not going anywhere,” he confirmed when asked about rumours that the long running BBC medical drama is to be axed. His remarks echoed an official statement by the BBC in March when rumours of the show’s demise started to circulate.

At Sunday’s awards ceremony the producer of the show also used the opportunity as a platform to push for the show’s future. Speaking in the BAFTA winners room on Sunday night after it beat the likes of Emmerdale and EastEnders to the Best Soap award Producer Jon Sen, said: “I think that what is often overlooked, [is that] the brilliant high end drama of tomorrow rests and relies on the vibrant, continuing drama of today.

“And we need to give it the attention and the credit and the funding that it needs in order to provide the drama industry with the start of tomorrow, both acting, writing, directing, cast, crew, technicians, artists we are the furnace for for tomorrow.”

This was the second year in a row that the show took the coveted prize and Neet was amongst the cast members there to witness it. Describing it as amazing he did admit that it is a tricky show to categorise.

“I’m a bit confused with some of these titles on the awards. Some of them say soap and continuing drama and then this one just said soap so the show kind of gets put in with soap.

“But it’s kind of not a soap, but then it’s not defined as a full drama like something like The Sixth Commandment would be.

“But it is really lovely to get that recognition and two years in a row, which is amazing!” he enthused.

The event also gave the hardworking cast a rare opportunity to socialise together away from the hectic shooting schedule on the show which Neet found “lovely”.

“Me and Michael Stevenson (who plays paramedic Iain Dean) were joking that we only see each other, if there’s an award ceremony.

“It’s really nice to get that bit of social time because the schedule is so busy, and some people aren’t based in Cardiff [where the show is filmed] either.

“So even if we tried to get together sometimes for a cast meal or something like that it can sometimes be quite difficult to liaise with schedules and people being in and travel and stuff so it was really lovely.”
